What you'll need

  • A clear plastic bottle with a lid
  • Water
  • Rice or dry pasta
  • Leaves, petals or small objects

How to do it

  1. 1Let your child choose what goes in — leaves, petals, a spoon of rice.
  2. 2Half fill the bottle with water, add the objects, then top it up.
  3. 3Close the lid tightly and, if you like, tape it shut.
  4. 4Roll, shake and watch together, naming what you both notice.

What it helps with

Builds focus, descriptive language and calm, self-directed attention.

Keep it safe

Small objects are a choking risk if the bottle opens — keep the lid secured and stay nearby.
